The Dalhousie men’s volleyball team are looking to capture their 22nd consecutive league title. The first step in claiming this achievement would be defeating the UNB Varsity Reds on Friday, February 15 in game one of the AUS playoffs.
The Tigers enter the playoffs in first place, but should be challenged by UNB. In five meetings over the season the Tigers won three games, but also gave up two losses.
Tigers head coach Dan Ota is optimistic about his team and its capabilities, but he also knows the players will have to work hard to succeed.
“Unlike some years when we've had to battle complacency during the last few weeks of league play and then playoffs, we shouldn't have any problems getting up for this weekend's matches against UNB," says Coach Ota. "They've played us tough all season, and we know that we'll have to play at a high level to get the results we're looking for.”
The AUS men’s volleyball playoffs are a best of three series. Friday night’s game hosted at Dalplex will start at 8 p.m., following the Tigers’ women’s game vs. St. FX. Game two will be held at UNB on Sunday and game three, if needed, will be back at Dalplex on Saturday, February 23 at 7 p.m.
The series winner will be headed to Laval for the CIS Championship February 29 through March 2.
Tickets for Friday’s game will be available at the door and are $5 for adults, $4 for alumni, faculty and staff and $3 for non-Dal students. Dalhousie students are admitted free with student ID.
