The union representing part-time academics at Dalhousie has voted to accept a new contract.
CUPE Local 3912 represents about 950 part-time academics, instructors, teaching assistants (TAs), markers and demonstrators at Dalhousie. Members ratified the three-year deal in a vote that took place on DalhousieÕs Studley campus a week ago and on Sexton campus on Tuesday.
ÒThat means weÕve now successfully concluded bargaining for university workers at Dal, Mount Saint Vincent and Saint MaryÕs,” said Peter Baxter, national representative for CUPE. ÒWeÕre glad Dal tabled an offer similar to the other universities.”
The new contract provides competitive rates of increase and additional Òteaching opportunities” for TAs.
"We are pleased that the two negotiating teams successfully concluded a tentative agreement and to have confirmation of ratification by the CUPE membership,” said Michael Roughneen, Dalhousie Assistant Vice President, Personnel Services. ÒThe tentative agreement will be considered by the Board when it meets on June 19.”
The existing contract for members of CUPE Local 3912 at Dal expired on August 31, 2006.
