On Nov. 10, Dalhousie University officially launched the 2005 CIS Cross Country championship. Both the women's 5km and men's 10km races were held at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax on Nov. 12.
"We are extremely proud of our cross country program here at Dalhousie," said Al Scott, Director of Athletics. "The tradition of excellence that is so prominent here at Dalhousie is evident in the dedication of these student-athletes. Having the opportunity to host this championship was truly an honour."
Last year's gold medallist, Cristiano Mauricio of Windsor captured his second straight individual title. Two-time gold medallist Beth Wightman of the University of Toronto finished the women's five-kilometre race in 16 minutes and 44 seconds to claim her third career individual gold medal.
Dalhousie's own Janice Ashworth, a three-time AUS champion won the silver medal for the third time in as many CIS championship appearances. Janice is the female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 13.
