Apply to Sustainability Co‑op

Work-Integrated LEarning gives you a deeper educational experience by allowing you to alternate study terms with paid work term(s) that are relevant to your academic program. 

SUSTAINABILITY CO-OP

Sustainability Co-op involves three paid work-terms alternating with academic study terms. Students apply during winter term of their first year in the ESS program.

Who can Apply?

Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science students majoring in ESS who meet the following criteria are invited to apply to co-op:

  • Declared (or intending to declare) a Double Major in "Environment, Sustainability and Society" and another subject
  • Have a cGPA of 3.0 or higher at the time of application (must be maintained throughout the program)
  • Meet course pre-requisites including SUST 1000 or SUST 1400, and SUST 1001(execptions may be considered)
  • Must not be enrolled in any other co-op or internship program at Dalhousie University

SUSTAINABILITY WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM (WEP)

Sustainability WEP involves a single paid work term, usually in the third year of the ESS program. Students apply during the winter term of their second year in the ESS program.
Who can Apply?

Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Community Design students majoring in ESS who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for Sustainability WEP:

  • Have declared a Major in Environment, Sustainability and Society and another subject.
  • Have a minimum cGPA of 3.0 (must be maintained for work term eligibility)
  • Are on track to complete SUST 2000, SUST 2001 and SUST 3000 before the end of third year
  • Are not enrolled in any other Co-op or internship program at Dalhousie

APPLY TO CO-OP AND WEP USING MYCAREER

  1. Login to myCareer and select the Work-Integrated Learning & Co-operative Education section from the left-hand menu. If you can not see this section, email askcoop@dal.ca for assistance.
  2. Select the program for which you are applying (Sust Co-op or Sust WEP) to begin your application.
  3. Click Submit Application once complete.

AFTER SUBMITTING 
You'll receive an email confirming that we've received your application. Please check your application in myCareer regularly. If we require more information from you, we will let you know in the 'action required by you' section or you will receive an email from your department to book an appointment.

NEXT STEPS
Students admitted to Sustainability Co-op and WEP will register for SUST 8890.00 (Co-op and WEP Orientation Seminar) in the next Fall term. 

Sustainability Co-op students must also register for and SUST 2000.06 in Fall Term and SUST 2001.06 in Winter Term. These courses are required before you can embark on your first work term the following summer.

Sustainability WEP students must register for SUST 3000 in Fall term and must also complete SUST 2000 and SUST 2001 if not taken in second year. These courses are required before you can embark on your first work term.
