In 2014, the Government of Nova Scotia launched a new scholarship program to help attract and support high-quality PhD and thesis-based Masters students whose research interests align with priority areas of the Province. We tackle many of these priority areas at SRES: ocean-related science and technology, natural resource sectors, life sciences, business sustainability, social innovation and clean technology including renewable energy systems. Such topics are of frequent interest to students in our Master of Environmental Studies program as well as Interdisciplinary PhD students that wish to work with us.
The value of the Masters-level NS Graduate Scholarship is $10,000 per year and is renewable for a second year. Ph.D. scholarships are valued at $15,000 per year and may be renewed for up to three years. Students do not need to be from Nova Scotia, or even Canada. Eligible students are nominated by their home department after having been accepted into a program of study, so students wanting this opportunity should apply early. Note that students cannot apply to this program independently.
If you are interested in undertaking research that falls within any of the above-noted broad priority areas, and have a strong academic record (above 3.7 GPA in your last two years), please contact specific Faculty members in SRES and/or our Academic Program Coordinator, Professor Kate Sherren (kate.sherren@dal.ca), to discuss your research interests and the NS Graduate Scholarship program.
Further information and application forms are available online at the Faculty of Graduate Studies website.
