About

Integrated Science. A unique first year science experience at Dalhousie University.

Integrated Science (DISP) is a first-year experience for science students at Dalhousie University. Undeclared Science students from the University of King's College are also eligible to apply for Integrated Science. It provides an enriched science experience for a small cohort of students (maximum 80) with an emphasis on research and integration across the sciences. After finishing this foundation year, students select their Major subject and join other BSc students in second-year courses. Most of our students continue at Dal to complete an honours degree in science to prepare for graduate or professional school.

Integrated approach

The Integrated Science program takes a cross-disciplinary approach, where you will not only study the core material of a variety of science subjects but will learn to look for the many connections among different disciplines. For example, you may learn how cell science and genetics have informed the study of the brain, how historic changes in our planet and its atmosphere have determined the history of life on Earth, and how an understanding of statistics is essential to interpreting the efficacy of a new drug or vaccine.
