Joint Program (China Program)
Dalhousie’s Department of Economics currently has two joint programs in China. One of these is with Shandong University of Finance and Economics (SDUFE) in the city of Jinan in Shandong Province, and one is with Renmin University of China (RUC) in Beijing.
Students in the joint program at SDUFE spend their first two years of university at the Chinese partner university. They then have a choice of spending 1-2 years at Dalhousie or remaining at SDUFE for four years. If they choose the latter, they will still receive eight courses taught by Dalhousie recruited faculty in English. If they choose the former, they may be eligible for a Dalhousie degree if they end up earning at least half of their overall credits from Dalhousie. The RUC program is a straight forward 2+2 program and in that sense, is very different from the SDUFE program.
Admission requirements
Students entering one of the joint programs are recruited at the end of senior high school in China by the Chinese university partner. The requirements for admission to the first two years of the program are at the discretion of the Chinese university partner. Acceptance to Dalhousie for the third or fourth years of study is at the discretion of Dalhousie. All students who come to Dalhousie are integrated into regular economics program at Dalhousie.
