STRATIGRAPHY AND PETROLOGY OF THE "ENNADAI LAKE GROUP" DISTRICT OF KEEWATIN N.W. T .
(PDF - 54 Mb)
The Ennadai Lake and Nueltin Lake map-areas (NTS 65C and 65B west half) in the District of Keewatin are situated between north latitude 60° and 61° and longitude 99° and 102°. As part of a continuing investigation, in particular of the Hurwitz Group and its lateral equivalents and, in general of the detailed stratigraphy and structure of the Aphebian sedimentary rocks of this area of the Churchill structural province, mapping at a scale of 1~ 4 miles was commenced by Dr . K.E . Eade of the Geological Survey of Canada in the field season of 1968 and was completed the following summer . The region was previously mapped at a 1:8 mile reconnaissance scale.
Throughout the area south east of Ennadai Lake , a sedimentary sequence believed to be equivalent and in part lithologically correlative to the Hurwitz Group of its type region (Watterson, Hurwitz and Henik Lakes area) is overlain unconformabley by a polymictic, tilloid (or paraconglomerate), which displays mappable lateral lithological variations and in places an upwards gradation into a pebbley laminated feldspathic greywacke to greywacke unit.
This study was initiated by K.E. Eade in conjunction with field mapping in the summer of 1969 to study possible modes of origin for the tilloid and to investigate its stratigraphic relationships and lithology.
The name "Ennadai Lake Group" has been informally proposed by K.E. Eade for this previously undescribed sequence.
