Alumnus Bryan Adkins (MREM’12) is part of a project in Kenya that is working to protect forests and wildlife, and educating people on how to better their community and environment. The project is supported by the United Nations Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) that offers incentives for developing countries to reduce emissions.
Impoverished communities in the Kasigau corridor often rely on the landscape to make ends meet and provide for their families. The Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project partnered with Wildlife Works, a project development and management company that works to decrease the use of forest-based resources by promoting alternatives.
“All of this is done through a very collaborative approach with the Kenya Forest Service,” Adkins added.
