Congratulations!
On May 12, George Murphy, a Corner Brook lawyer with Poole Althouse, will be sworn in as a judge of the trial division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.
After taking a bachelor of education and a bachelor of physical education through Memorial University, Murphy studied law here at Dalhousie and graduated in 1990. He was called to the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1991. The following year he started practising with Poole Althouse where his main areas of expertise were corporate and commercial law, including tax planning, labour law, as well as will and estates. In 2007 he was appointed to the Queen’s Counsel.
Murphy will be replacing Justice Robert Stack who is in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The swearing in ceremony will take place at the Corner Brook Law Courts Building on May 12 at 10 a.m. and will be presided over by Justice David Orsborn, Chief Justice of the trial division.
