The Akoma Bursary Program
For former residents and staff of the Nova Scotia Home for Colored Children (NSHCC) or the Akoma Family Centre
Akoma has established a Bursary program to support former residents and staff of the Nova Scotia Home for Colored Children (NSHCC) or the Akoma Family Centre with their post secondary educational pursuits. Two awards of $1000 each are available.
The Akoma Bursary is to assist full and part time students who are attending a recognized college or university.
Bursary funds may be applied towards tuition, fees and other costs related to the program of study.
How to Apply:
- Fill out the Application Form
- Provide proof of enrolment
- Provide contact information for 2 references, one academic and one community related
*Evidence of participation in Akoma related work or programming would be considered an asset.
Electronic or paper copies of the application form, letter of interest and reference contacts must be submitted on or before October 15th to linda.power@dal.ca
Bursary recipient may be asked to attend an Akoma event to acknowledge receipt of Bursary.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
