Winter 2021 Student News

By Katie Broussard, Student Society President

The fall semester in the School of Physiotherapy kicked off in September with welcoming the incoming physiotherapy class of 2023 to campus and to the program. The student society worked together with the school to organize various activities and events for the students to take part in. Some main events included a pizza party, karaoke, a networking event, and a mini version of the Amazing Race. Second year students were able to participate in some of the events as well, which created a great avenue for the two classes to meet each other and have some fun.

Incoming students started their journey in the program taking introductory courses for musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy among others, while the second year students continued on with their studies with a focus on neuroanatomy and neurotherapeutics. With midterms finished, both the first and second year physio students are gearing up to take on final exams. The first years will also be getting ready to take part in their very first clinical placements, which will happen for two weeks at the start of December. We are all looking forward to having some time off for the holiday season once these placements and finals are complete.

Following the holiday season, the first years will be back in classes, while the second years look forward to their second clinical placements of the program. The second year cohort is excited to be heading to various regions in Atlantic Canada to take on two separate 6-week placements before heading back to Halifax to continue with classes.

In terms of student life, the process of organizing a PT Ball event has begun. All current students can expect to attend this event which will most likely occur late in the winter term/early spring. Planning is in the very early stages and more information is expected to become available as a date and other aspects of the event are finalized over the next few months.

A huge congratulations is also in order for the Class of 2021, who have just concluded their final placements and fulfilled all the requirements to graduate from the program!
