Summer 2024 Student News
Meet Your Incoming Student Society Representatives
By Alyssa Walsh, DPSS President
Our 2nd year class is fresh off their first 2 placements. It’s been a busy and wonderful spring and summer. We’ve all learned so much and feel grateful for the 12 weeks of experience that’s started to mould us as Physiotherapists. It goes without saying, we’re all looking forward to returning to campus in September and meeting the incoming class. It’s hard to believe how quickly it’s gone by! It feels like yesterday we were in the position of anxiously awaiting to start the PT journey and we’re all so excited to orient and be helping hand and for the 1st years the same way the class of 2025 was there for us.
In the meantime, here’s an introduction to the 2024/25 Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society (DPSS):
Alyssa Walsh, President

Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa and I’m the President of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. I graduated from Dalhousie with a BSc Honors in Kinesiology in 2018. I worked for the next 5 years in community exercise and mobility programming for people with disabilities and absolutely loved it. This made me realize I wanted to return to school to further my education in Physiotherapy; I couldn’t be happier with my decision! I’m from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, grew up on the South Shore, and call Halifax home now since my undergrad. In my spare time I coach Special Olympics Soccer (let me know if you want to get involved!) and try to squeeze in as much movement and outdoor time as I can. I LOVE dogs, hiking, camping and running, figure skating, travelling, and trying as many yummy coffees and sweets as I can.
As someone who came back to school “later” in adulthood, I know how daunting it can seem to take on this master’s program. Trust that everyone here wants the best for you and we’re all in this together. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to ask questions, or just to vent at any time. I can’t wait to meet you all!
Abbey Cornish, Vice-President

Hey everyone! My name is Abbey, and I am the Vice President of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. I am also one of the social media reps for the PT Society. I graduated from Dalhousie in 2023 with a BSc in Kinesiology, then returned to Dal for Physiotherapy. I am originally from Summerside, PEI and a fun fact about me is that I used to be a member of the Dalhousie swim team and was captain in my final year. In my free time I enjoy any and all water related activities, going to coffee shops and spending time with friends. If you have any questions, don’t be afraid to reach out. I can’t wait to meet you all in September!
Robin Short, Secretary

Hey everyone, my name is Robin, and I am the secretary of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society. I am from Halifax, NS and graduated from Dalhousie with a BSc, majoring in Biology and Minoring in Psychology. After graduating, I took a couple years to explore different career paths before deciding to pursue the PT program here at Dal. Outside of school, I enjoy rock climbing, coaching and spending time with friends and family. If you have any questions or need support throughout the program, feel free to reach out. I’m excited to meet you all in September!
Jade Shushu Saulnier-Cyr, Treasurer

Hi everyone! My name is Jade, and I am the treasurer of the Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society for this upcoming year. I grew up in Shediac, New-Brunswick, but I completed my undergraduate degree at Bishops University in Sherbrooke, Quebec. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a health science concentration in 2022. In my spare time, I enjoy being as active as possible (hiking, hockey, soccer, badminton, climbing), reading, exploring Halifax, and spending time with friends/meeting new people!
Physiotherapy school is an amazing environment where you’ll get to meet great and fun people - don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions throughout your program. I can’t wait to meet you all!
