Fall 2018 Student News
By Tyler Parmiter - Student President
A new school year has begun and the Class of 2020 have met their classmates, become familiar with Halifax, and are well into their semester. This year’s Dalhousie Physiotherapy Student Society (DPTSS) hit the ground running with multiple orientation events to make sure the incoming students were familiar with the campus and it's resources.
At DAL, we are all about interprofessional collaboration. In that light we spent an afternoon with our fellow Forrest building occupants, the occupational therapy students! An OT/PT sports afternoon of friendly competition was a great way to get to know our 3rd floor "neighbours" better.
Many other PT orientation activities have taken place over the past month, including a boat cruise, buddy dinner and a corn boil. Orientation ended with the annual PT camping trip, complete with a washer toss tournament and a variety of other camping games. Friends were made and fun was had by all. We as the DPTSS hope that the abundance of events allowed new students to feel welcome at Dalhousie, the Faculty of Health, and as part the School of Physiotherapy family.
We would like to thank local businesses for donating to our orientation month. This includes Freeman’s Little New York, Pita Pit, Supplement King, East Side Mario’s, Moksha Yoga, and Freshii. We'd also like to thank the NSPA, NBPA, NLPA and PEIPA for sponsoring the annual "Welcome [back] pizza party"
The returning class of 2019 has been busy catching up with professors, staff, and each other’s stories about clinical placements and summer activities. With one year under their belts they have gained some experience and some great life lessons. Now they’re ready to take on their last year of school to become that much closer to a “real” physiotherapist.
As school ramps up, "For the Health of It" is just around the corner and we are ready to regain the winning title. The Class of 2019 is very excited and are encouraging the first-year students to catch the excitement! There will be many, many activities to take part in, so stay tuned!
