"I believe these interprofessional experiences have aided in the development of my communication skills, my ability to listen and collaborate with other members of the health team and has prepared me to perform and know my role in the team of a client centered model of care."
IPHE experience: Rehabilitation Ward (Corner Brook, Newfoundland)
Throughout all three of my placements I have had many opportunities to collaborate with other health professionals in the development of treatment plans for the patients we were working with.
Rounds were a place where I got to develop my interprofessional communication with doctors, nurses, speech language pathologists, social work and dietitians.
The rehabilitation ward in Corner Brook Newfoundland really opened up my eyes and made me realize the importance of collaborating as a team to develop and assess treatment program for patients in order for them to achieve the best outcomes.
During my placements I worked very closely with the occupational therapists, particularly on my neuro placement. We would do home visits to determine if the patient’s home was safe for return. I also had the chance to work with delegate tasks to physiotherapy assistants.
I believe these interprofessional experiences have aided in the development of my communication skills, my ability to listen and collaborate with other members of the health team and has prepared me to perform and know my role in the team of a client centered model of care.
