Summer 2021 Event Highlight
School of Physiotherapy, Class of 1981, 40th Reunion
Written by Nancy Walker and Lil Crump
August 9, 2021 marked the evening of the School of Physiotherapy’s, Class of 1981 impromptu reunion – hosted by the very gracious and newly retired faculty member, Nancy Walker.
The kernel of the reunion idea took root when Nancy Walker and Heather Osborne-Vincent heard news of classmates traveling to Nova Scotia from out-of-province. Heather took on the detective role to track down classmates not registered with Dalhousie’s Advancement Office. Her sleuthing resulted in a wonderful turn out of 14 on-site alumnae and 3 former classmates who “zoomed-in” from as far away as Ontario, British Columbia and Florida.
A wonderful time was had by all, as evidenced in the photos above. Non-Class of ’81-ers may never hear or understand the chatter about “Air Tom” and “Santa Esmerelda” – but many of us have heard about the For the Health of It event and it's contribution to local not-for-profits. This annual Faculty of Health event, started by a core group of Class of 1981 students, continues to raise funds for various worthy causes throughout our community.
As is often the case with School of Physiotherapy Class reunions, classmates seem to pick up like they never left off. Nancy couldn't be more pleased, “It was amazing to see how the majority of us had stayed in the profession for the past 40 years, with many remarkable achievements, both professional and personal. I am not sure when we will have the next get together, maybe at 45 years, as 50 may bring us together with canes and walkers - which at least we will know how to use!”
Thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success, and thanks to all who responded to emails, turned up and shared their photos. As we say in the PT community, “it was a great collaboration!”.
