Congratulations to staff, students, faculty, alumni and friends on their recent acheivements:

Faculty

• Gail Tomblin Murphy (Nursing) is this year's winner of the Dr. John Savage Memorial Award for Faculty Leadership in Global Health.  The award recognizes Dr. Tomblin Murphy's committment to global health - both at the systems and community levels - through her international research in planning for health systems and health human resources.  Read more about Dr. Tomblin Murphy's award on the Global Health Blog.
• Anne Marie Whelan (Pharmacy) was awarded the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada Award for Excellence in Research or Innovation in Assessment of Competence by the Association of Faculties of Pharmacy of Canada.
• Merlinda Weinberg (Social Work) was the keynote speaker for the Nova Scotia Association of Social Work Annual Conference in May.  Dr. Weinberg's address explored the question of ethical practice for social workers at the intersection of care and control.
• Brenda Sabo (Nursing) was the winner of this year's Dalhousie Academic Innovation Award.  This University-wide teaching award recognizes Dr. Sabo's innovative teaching approach focused on using arts and performance to connect Nursing students to the community.  Read more about Dr. Sabo and Dal's other teaching award winners.
• Diane MacKenzie (Occupational Therapy) was recognized by Sport Nova Scotia at the Ricoh Sport Awards as Official of the Year in the Swim category.  Dr. MacKenzie has volunteered as an official for swim meets at both the national and provincial levels, and has developed an officials' database that was adopted by Swimming Canada in 2015.
• Dr. Marilyn MacKay-Lyons (Physiotherapy) was recently awarded the Wayne Putnam Award from Dalhousie Medical School's Continuing Professional Development, in recognition for contributions in notable ways to the continuing education of Maritime physicians.
• Barb Hamiilton-Hinch (School of Health and Human Performance) was one of four recipients of Dalhousie's Rosemary Gill Awards.  The awards recognize staff or faculty members who have provided outstanding service, other than teaching, to students.  Read more about Barb and her fellow winners - including Physiotherapy's Kelly Underwood - in DalNews.

Staff

• Kelly Underwood (Physiotherapy) was one of four recipients of Dalhousie's Rosemary Gill Awards.  The awards recognize staff or faculty members who have provided outstanding service, other than teaching, to students. Kelly is the Admissions Assistant in the School of Physiotherapy.  Read more about Kelly and her fellow winners in Dal News.
  

Students

• Nursing student Maike van Niekerk has received this year's Dr. Ron Stewart Award for Student Leadership in Global Health.  Maike is committed to community outreach and service in global health, and has received multiple awards recognizing her contributions to community health.  Read more about Maike's award on the Global Health Blog.
• Nursing PHD Candidate Britney Benoit was awarded the 2016 Rising Star Award by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS).  The award recognizes RNs in Nova Scotia who are recent nursing graduates and have exceeded their professional expectations, demonstrated excellence in the application of the CRNNS standards for nursing practice, and have shown early potential to excel at nursing excellence.
• The Laboratory for Brain Recovery and Function's Neuroscience PhD student Sarah Krautner is a recipient of this year's Governor General's Gold Medal Award (Sciences/Engineering) for her Master of Science work.
• Kimbly Morgan (MScRRPT candidate) will be awarded the Silver Quill Award in the Knowledge Translation Category for the following article published in Physiotherapy Canada: "Effects of Autogenic Drainage on Sputum Recovery and Pulmonary Function in People with Cystic Fibrosis: A Systematic Review", Volume 67, 4th Edition, Fall 2015. The presentation of the Silver Quill awards took place at the CPA Awards Ceremony at Congress 2016 in Victoria, BC.
  
• A number of students from the Faculty of Health Professions were recognized at the 2016 Graduate Student Research Day.  As well as Faculty of Health Professions Graduate Student Excellence in Research Award winner Britney Benoit (Nursing), the following students also received awards for their research:
  • First Place - Posters (Masters Level) - Rebecca deChamplain (MN, Nursing) "Examining the relationship between cognitive and affective components of empathy to compassion fatigue, burnout and compassion satisfaction in pediatric nurses."  Supervisor - Margot Latimer.
  • First Place - Platforms (Masters Level) - Timothy Disher (MN, Nursing) "Reducing noise in critical care: Considerations for interventions and evaluation." Supervisor - Marsha Campbell-Yeo
  • First Place - Platforms (PhD Level) - Logan Lawrence (PhD Health) "Operationalizing integrated knowledge translation with public health decision makers: A scoping review."  Supervisor - Janet Curran
