Research Funding

• Congratulations to Sara Kirk (Health and Human Performance) and her team who received a CIHR Population Health Intervention Grant in the amount of $100,000 for "Building on successes and learning from challenges: A comprehensive evaluation of the school food and nutrition policy in Nova Scotia."

• Congratulations to principal investigators Erna Snelgrove-Clarke (Nursing) and Jennifer West (MHS Manager, IWK Health Centre, Birth Unit) and their team of co-investigators who received an IWK Foundation TRIC Grant in the amount of $69,000 - with $80,00 in kind from the IWK Birth Unit - for "Second stage labour management: Translating evidence to enhance maternal newborn outcomes - The TEEM Study."

• Congratulations to Janet Curran (Nursing) and her team, who received an IWK Foundation TRIC Grant in the amount of $73,000 for "Preparing Emergency Patients and Providers. Translating Research into Care."

• Congratulations to principal investigators Brenda Sabo (Nursing) and Grace Johnston (Health Administration), and their team of co-investigators - including Deborah McLeod (Nursing) and Erna Snelgrove-Clarke (Nursing) who received a Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation Establishment Grant in the amount of $81,637 for "Transitioning from curative to supportive/palliative intent: A scoping review of facilitators and barriers."

• Congratulations to Audrey Steenbeek (Nursing), who is working with the Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada as nominated principal investigator on a CIHR Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Community Based Research Operating Grant in the amount of $445,000.

• Congratulations to co-principal investigators Debbie Martin (Health and Human Performance), Mary McNally (Dentistry) and Sharon Rudderham (Eskasoni Health Centre), who received a CIHR Pathways Grant for "Tui'kn (Passage) to Oral Health: A community-led research partnership to improve oral health in Unama'ki." Co-investigators on the grant include Margot Latimer (Nursing).

Awards

• Congratulations to Christine Cassidy, a PhD student in the School of Nursing, who will receive a Rising Star Award from the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS) at their upcoming AGM.  The Rising Star Award recognizes individual registered nurses in Nova Scotia who have achieved a registered nurse designation within the last three years, exceeded the expectations of the nominee’s employers or colleagues,  demonstrated excellence in the application of Standards for nursing practice and Code of Ethics, and shown great potential to become an exceptional member of the nursing profession.

• Congratulations to Marsha Campbell-Yeo (Nursing) who received a Canadian Child Health Clinical Scientist Program Career Development Award.  Dr. Campbell-Yeo will receive $70,000 per year for a maximum of four years.

• Congratulations to Britney Benoit, a PhD student in the School of Nursing, who won a oral presentation trainee award at the Canadian National Perinatal Research Meeting in February.  Britney is supervised by Lisa Goldberg and Marsha Campbell-Yeo.

• Congratulations to Gail Tomblin-Murphy (Nursing) who is this year's recipient of the College of Registred Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS) Excellence in Nursing Research Award.  Dr. Tomblin-Murphy will receive the award at this year's CRNNS AGM in April, 2015.
