Faculty of Health Professions Employee Milestones

Our faculty and staff play a vital role in providing 38 health programs across 10 schools, supporting and producing topnotch research and making the Faculty of Health Professions the educator of choice for tomorrow’s health professionals. In 2013, the Faculty of Health Professions launched the Employee Milestone Recognition Program which recognizes employees with 10 and 20 years of continuous service with the Faculty. Award recipients receive a gift card to the Dalhousie Bookstore.

Years with FHP: 20 (soon to be 21)

What was your first job?  Physical Plant and Planning (PPP) now known as Facilities Management as the radio handler (637).  Back in the day, any electrical, plumbing and maintenance calls were sent out over the radio.

What is your favourite thing about working at the FHP? Working with a great bunch of people!

What is the biggest change you’ve seen at Dal over the last 20 years? So many new buildings have been created!

What has been the highlight of your career with the Faculty? Being recognized for 20 years of service at the 2013 FHP Faculty and Staff Holiday Get-Together.

What is your proudest accomplishment at work? Being able to have worked with three different Directors, beginning with Dr. Barbara O'Shea, then Dr. Elizabeth Townsend and now Dr. Tanya Packer!

What is one thing your co-workers may not know about you? My grade 6 teacher taught me to speak "Pig Latin" and I still do!

Any other cool stories from your time with Dal? When I was going through the interview process for my first job at Dal, I had to take a test at Human Resources and had to walk past a strike line near the A&A (Henry Hicks). One of the signs from a striker flew up in the air as it was a windy day and hit me in the face. I went to my test with a cut across my nose which then turned into two black eyes. Do you think that's why I got the job?
