Professor Laurene Rehman is the Director in the School of Health and Human Performance and Assistant Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Health at Dalhousie University. She has 25 years experience in academia and expertise in the field of recreation and leisure studies. Her teaching has focused on recreation management, including leisure services analysis, recreation entrepreneurship and special event management, and leadership and group dynamics. Her research seeks to understand access to family leisure, especially physically active leisure. She is seeking to identify strategies to increase leisure time physical activity given the large number of children nationally (and internationally) who are not meeting health guidelines for sufficient moderate-to-vigorous physical activity per day. Laurene is co-chair of Let’s Get Moving Halifax Regional Municipality, a network of organizations whose goal is to make physical activity the easy choice for Haligonians. Through this network, she has been able to directly apply the results of her research as well as support the evaluation of their initiatives.
Research interests
Laurene is interested in understanding the factors that support or constrain participation in family leisure, particularly physically active. She seeks to identify strategies to negotiate participation and opportunities to increase inclusion for all.
