Research interests
Dr. MacLean’s research focuses on evolutionary biomechanical adaptations to the human musculoskeletal system and their association with modern injuries, diseases, and disorders. She primarily focuses on the comparative evolution and clinical examination of the shoulder complex. Using experimental biomechanics and musculoskeletal computational modeling techniques, Dr. MacLean has a keen interest in ancestral forms of locomotion such as climbing, the evolutionary development and treatment of shoulder disorders like rotator cuff injuries, and how musculoskeletal diversity can dictate physical performance and injury rates.
