This session will provide an overview of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV and the potential role of a pharmacist as a PrEP prescriber. Presenters will review HIV epidemiology and risk factors, the availability and pharmacological considerations of PrEP, and a prescribing protocol that includes monitoring and assessment of patient eligibility and laboratory values. By the end of the session, participants will be able to follow a protocol for PrEP prescribing as part of a collaborative practice agreement or independent prescribing if approved in Nova Scotia.
