Applying to an Engineering Discipline
In the winter term of your first year, you will be given a Discipline Choice Form to complete, ranking your preferences among the 10 engineering disciplines. Placement in a specific discipline is based on academic performance in the first year.
Those with an Engineering Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.3 or higher are guaranteed their first choice of program. The remaining students are ranked by first year GPA, and in this order are given their best choice until a particular program is full. (In practice, most students get their first choice.)
The Faculty of Engineering will inform students who have met the criteria of promotion from year one to year two of their conditional placement in one of the accredited programs.
How to apply
Application must be made by April 30 for conditional acceptance into year two of a specified engineering discipline. Every engineering discipline has a defined maximum enrollment; therefore places are assigned on a competitive basis.
The procedure is as follows:
- By April 30, you must specify your ordered preferences for three or more engineering disciplines. The application is for conditional acceptance into year two of an engineering discipline.
- Any student who has completed all of the entry requirements for an engineering discipline, with a GPA of 3.30 or better, will be guaranteed a place in that engineering discipline.
- In a single competition, students with a GPA greater than or equal to 2.00 and less than 3.30 will be assigned conditional places (year two) in engineering disciplines, proceeding in strict order of GPA, subject to discipline capacities.
- Any student with a GPA of less than 2.00 will not be admitted to a discipline.
