MASc student, Braden Murphy, received the Governor General Gold Medal for the most outstanding master's thesis at Dalhousie. He was awarded the medal for his novel pneumatic engine design. Murphy is a Mechanical graduate from Dalhousie and began his Master's in 2010. His work has resulted in publications as well as US and Canadian patent applications. Murphy also runs a Halifax-based start-up company called Atlantic Motor Labs.
