Biography
Uday Venkatadri, Ph.D., P.Eng., is a Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He has taught at Dalhousie University since July 2001. Before joining Dalhousie, he was a Lead Architect for supply chain planning products at Baan. He has also worked as a Research Associate at Université Laval in Québec City.
Uday's research interests are in facilities planning and supply chain management. He teaches courses in these areas as well as in operations research, modeling of industrial systems, information systems, algorithms, and quality control.
Selected Awards and Honours:
- 2021: Teaching award by the Logistics and Supply Chain Division of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers. This award is a significant international recognition.
- 2016: Best Teacher of the Year award, Department of Industrial Engineering, Dalhousie University
- 2004: Best Teacher of the Year award, Department of Industrial Engineering, Dalhousie University
- 1991 through 1993: Summer David Ross Fellowship awarded by Purdue University excellence in teaching
- August 1987 to August 1990: David Ross Fellowship awarded by Purdue University for Ph.D. work on Dynamic Layouts of Manufacturing Systems
- May 1988: Institute of Industrial Engineer's General Motors First Place Master's thesis award for the thesis "Layout of a Group Technology Manufacturing Cell"

Research Contributions
The long-term objective of my research to investigate design, planning, and control issues in production and distribution systems in the era of Industry 5.0 and Hyperconnected Logistics. I use Mixed Integer Linear Programming as the cornerstone of my methodological approach, while keeping up with trends in big data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
