The Faculty of Dentistry is pleased to announce that Dr. Ferne Kraglund has accepted the position of Assistant Dean, Students effective July 1, 2014.
Ferne graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University in 2004 and completed her M.Sc. in Dental Public Health at the University of Toronto in 2009 and has been an Assistant Professor in the Divisions of Comprehensive Care, Preventive Dentistry and Oral Health Promotion.
Over the last number of years Dr. Kraglund has been a valued and dedicated member of our Faculty Family. Her teaching has encompassed all four years of the DDS curriculum and clinical instruction in the School of Dental Hygiene. Ferne’s research and curricular activities have provided opportunities for our students and faculty to experience outreach at an entirely new level. In particular with the North End Community Health Center, Inuit Communities in Labrador and sponsored care within our dental clinics at Dalhousie.
Dr. Kraglund’s expertise and experience will bring an added dimension to the position of Assistant Dean, Students.
With this announcement comes the news that Dr. John Lovas will be retiring as Assistant Dean, Students. For the past five years Dr. Lovas has brought tremendous energy, enthusiasm and wisdom to this position. He has developed an excellent relationship with students and implemented various initiatives including the well received mindfulness programs for faculty, staff, students, alumni and university colleagues. Dr. Lovas’ legacy will have a positive and long-lasting impact on the student experience at our Faculty.
