Former SOSA professor Dr Afua Cooper is one of five new recipients of the Order of Nova Scotia. She has been recognized for her contributions as a historian, author, academic, and Halifax's poet laureate. Nominated by a staff member in her research project A Black People's History of Canada, Cooper was delighted to receive this award, as CBC news reports.
