ACTING: 5 things to know

 

1. What is the Acting program?

Our Acting program is a dynamic and intensive professional actor training program. We’re dedicated to advancing your ability to act in a wide variety of styles ranging from classical to contemporary.

2. Why study acting at Dalhousie?

Dal’s Acting program is a highly creative and rigorous training opportunity. Our students are educated in textual analysis and acting techniques that allow them to communicate clearly and imaginatively in a range of theatrical forms.

You’ll be offered a series of performance opportunities including three fully mounted productions each season. You’ll collaborate with industry professionals, faculty and fellow students from our Costume Studies, Stage Design and Technical Theatre and Theatre Studies areas.

You can tailor your degree by complimenting your Acting studies with Minors or Double Majors in a wide range of topics that personally interest you.

3. What degrees and courses are offered?

The four-year acting program centres around in-studio courses in Acting, Movement and Dance, and Voice and Speech that builds towards a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Theatre.

4. What types of jobs can I get with a degree in Acting?

Our graduates go on to act, direct, teach and create a wide range of work within the Canadian theatre and film industries and beyond. The academic component of your degree will also provide a strong foundation for graduate studies.

5. Where to start?

Applicants audition out of High School, prior to enrolling at Dalhousie for their first year of study.
