To take an Honours degree combining German with another subject, a student must consult with the academic advisors of both departments to arrange the specifics of the program. In general, a combination of 66-84 intermediate and advanced credit hours in the two subjects is required. If students intend to take the German Honours exam, they need a minimum of 36 credit hours in German, including classes in Literature and Thought; if the Honours thesis or exam is completed in the other department, a minimum of 30 intermediate and advanced credit hours in German is required.
There are a variety of ways to combine a major in German with many other academic programs.
Combinations to consider:
Bachelor of Arts
Double Major or Combined Honours: As part of a Double Major or Combined Honours program, German can be combined with most other Faculty of Arts or Faculty of Science subjects.
Bachelor of Engineering
Bachelor of Arts students can complete a Bachelor of Engineering degree concurrently with their Arts program. Students in this program complete the equivalent of a three-year Bachelor of Arts degree in German and a Bachelor of Engineering in a period of five to six calendar years, depending on whether or not a co-op program is selected for Engineering.
Bachelor of Science
In the Bachelor of Science program, German can be combined with most of the Science Major or Honours subjects, provided a larger number of credits is taken in the Science subject.
