2019 Berlin Wall Exhibition
November 4th- 8th 2019
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Dalhousie Department of German, in cooperation with the Jean Monnet European Union Centre of Excellence, the German Heritage Language School, and the Dalhousie International Centre, presented the exhibition “The Wall. A Border Through Germany. From the Peaceful Revolution to German Unity” put on by the German Government (Bundesstiftung zur Aufarbeitung der SED Diktatur). It dealt with the protests in the GDR, escape movements to the West, and the self-democratization of GDR citizens.
The exhibition was accompanied by a reception and an interdisciplinary panel discussion with Florian Bail (Political Science), Julia Poertner (Department of German), Mathias Rodorff (History), and Ruben Zaiotti (JMEUCE) at the Dalhousie University Club on November 6.
