Hi I'm Sage! After graduating I moved to China to teach English and continue my studies with Mandarin; it was spectacular! Now, I'm on my way to begin studying acupuncture and Chinese medicine. I loved my classes at Dal and can accredit my drive, success all to my wonderful professor and friend Shao-Pin Luo.


Meagan Campbell
Studied Journalism at King's and
Mandarin at Dalhousie



Meagan Campbell works as a journalist
for Maclean's magazine, currently based in
Ottawa after spending two years working for
the magazine's bureau in Toronto. She enjoys
all things outdoors, including snowboarding
and scuba diving, and she hopes to travel
through China someday soon.


Kate Dalgleish
(BA ’10) Political Science and History,
Studied Mandarin in FASS


After graduating from Dalhousie, Kate
attended law school and continued to study
Mandarin, spending a summer interning at a
law firm in Shanghai. She articled in Calgary
and was called to the Bar in 2014; afterwards
she practiced commercial litigation at a
national law firm in Alberta. She then moved
to British Columbia and started a career in
government relations, dealing with federal and
provincial governments. She lives in Victoria.


Jacob Robinson-Parent

I unexpectedly started studying Mandarin Chinese in 2011. It was a life changing experience and I have used it all around the world. I am studying my masters in Czechia and currently on exchange in Korea. Studying Chinese gave me the opportunity to live in China and helped me get several jobs. Although I only have conversational Mandarin, I never go more than a week without speaking it. It’s helped improve my life in countless
ways.


Gillian Sisley
(BA ’15) French and International
Development Studies



Gillian graduated from Dalhousie in 2015, with a double major, a minor in Chinese Studies and a Certificate in Intercultural Communication. She went on to study an additional year in PR and communications at NSCC. Straight out of school, Gillian startedThe Clever Quill, a Halifax-based social media marketing and strategy business. Today, she’s running her business full-time, and is collaborating with local entrepreneurs and small business owners by storytelling the heart of their businesses online.


Emily Stewart
(BSc ’11) Environment Science
Studied Spanish and Mandarin in FASS


I took both Spanish and Mandarin classes through Dalhousie's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. After graduating, I spent 8 months living and working in Ecuador, followed by 4 years in medical school at the University of Toronto. Now, I am in my second year as a UBC Emergency Medicine resident physician in Vancouver, BC. Being able to have basic conversations in multiple languages definitely helps me communicate with our diverse patient population.
