Two positions to study towards M.Sc. degree
Supervisor: Dr. H.P. Vasantha Rupasinghe, Professor of Functional Foods & Nutraceuticals
Location: Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture, Dalhousie University, Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada
Project: Food Bioactives Research Program of Dalhousie University (dal.ca/fbrp) is initiating a new research project on developing and assessing plant-derived cosmeceutical ingredients.
The project is supported by a local agri-food industry partner and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada. In general, the interdisciplinary research activities include green extraction and encapsulation technologies of plant bioactives, analytical chemistry, biochemical and cell-based assays, and product development and assessment. Opportunity exists for continuation toward a Doctoral degree that will depend on the progress of the candidate and the availability of additional research grants.
Qualifications: Applicants must hold a B.Sc. honors degree in biochemistry, chemistry, food science and technology or related discipline and meet admission requirements to the M.Sc. in Agriculture program. Interest and knowledge about natural product chemistry, mammalian biochemistry, and/or cosmetic science would be a strong asset. Dalhousie University encourages candidates from under-represented groups, including members of the four designated groups, as defined by the Employment Equity Act (women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and racialized minorities).
