Can one small, blue swallow help change the world?
Find out this fall as The Maritime Conservatory of Performing Arts (MCPA) presents The Happy Prince, an original ballet sharing timeless messages of love, empathy and gratitude that speaks to audiences today.
“Families will fall in love with this production,” says Barbara Dearborn, Dean of Dance at MCPA. “By gentle example, the ballet teaches children and reminds adults how giving to others with a generous heart will change lives for the better. The Happy Prince also delights with humor and the artistry of classical ballet.”
Based on the short story by Oscar Wilde, The Happy Prince tells the story of friendship between a carefree little swallow and a magnificent gold statue of a young Prince. The Prince lived a life of blind privilege, and it is only as a statue, high above the city, that he sees the poverty and suffering outside the palace gates. During his winter migration, the small swallow stops to rest on the statue, and is enlisted to help give away the Prince’s wealth to the poor people of the kingdom.
