The Department of Animal Science and Aquaculture is pleased to welcome Dr. Younes Miar as Assistant Professor and Industry Research Chair, Mink Genomics.
Dr. Miar obtained his PhD in Animal Genomics from the University of Alberta in 2014, followed by a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Statistical Genomics and analysis of large-scale genomic data at the University of Guelph.
He is interested in use of genomics and bioinformatics to better understand the relationships between DNA and economically important traits in animals. His research focuses on use of high density SNP markers to improve production efficiency, disease resilience and product quality; and identifying DNA sequence differences responsible for variation in key animal traits.
Dr. Miar has extensive collaborations with groups worldwide and looks forward to linking with researchers at Dalhousie and in the region and to involvement in teaching.
