Melani Lane ‑ Meet the People in Your Neighbourhood

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on September 2, 2016 in News

To help celebrate Welcome Week 2016, The Faculty of Agriculture is profiling some of the people you will meet across the campus community in your travels on your new path at the Faculty of Agriculture.

The People in Our Neighborhood: Melani Lane

Where are you from?

I am form Truro/Bible Hill

What do you do at Dal?

I manage the Residence and Conference Operations as well as being responsible for Food service on Campus (dining Hall and retail units).

What are you looking forward to most this year?

It has been a very hectic summer with lots of projects and new upgrades in the residences and dining hall. I am very excited for the students to get back and see all the new things that have happened, enjoy the new communications package in residence and get back into a routine.

What is one piece of advice you would give students from your area of expertise on campus?

Let someone know if you are having problems or trouble with something. They may not be the person who can help you – but they will be able to point you to the person who can help.

What do you like to do in your spare time

I enjoy spin and body pump classes at the gym. I enjoy taking my 12-year-old Border Collie for long walks and puppy play dates.

I love the Ballet and Dance in general, Musical theatre and live music of all genres. I am on the Board of directors for the Marigold Cultural Center, a member of 100 Women Who Care and try to do something for the local homeless shelter every month or so.

I also love to spend time with my friends and attending family events with my son and our big, loud extended family. I enjoy traveling both in Canada and abroad and intend to do much more traveling once I win the lotto.

I watch Canada in most events during the Olympics (I prefer the winter Olympics). My favorite hockey tournament is the World Juniors in Dec./Jan. and have set my alarm to be awake for a 5am game during Christmas vacation to cheer for Team Canada. Although I always seem to be busy – I do enjoy sitting quietly by myself, reading a good book.
