Faculty and staff are encouraged to maintain frequent backups, and if possible, multiple backups of any data or files they feel tha they cannot do without.
The U of Calgary was recently hit with a “ransomware attack” and according to CBC had to pay $20,000 to get their files unlocked.

One of the best backup procedures would be to use a portable hard drive as often as possible and backup older files that you can’t do without but do not use every day - to DVDs.
When using a portable HDD, do not leave it plugged into a PC because if a ransomeware virus hits, it will infect every drive that it sees including cloud based drives that are open.
If anyone needs help, give Craig, Tim or Fred a call at 893-6154.
Sincerely,
ITS
