Thank a Donor Week ‑ Class of 1960 Memorial Bursary

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on November 17, 2015 in Alumni & Friends, News

It may be 55 years since the Class of 1960 graduated from the former NSAC, but the group is as close as ever. The small class of 40, five of whom now live internationally, have remained very connected over the years, even as they have ventured different ways for further schooling, work  and travel. Many members of the class went on to complete their education at other institutions, but they fondly remember their time at the Agricultural Campus.

(L to R): Garth Coffin, Donald Bowlby, Norman Beaton, Gilbert MacDonald, Edmund Read, Arch Cook, Donald MacDonald, Laurie Hennigar, Allan Steeves)

The class gathers every five years or so to reflect on memories, catch up on news and events, celebrate and to enjoy each other’s company. The goal of their reunions is to address class business and enjoy an educational activity.

In July 2015 the class met in Charlottetown, PEI for their 55th reunion. As an educational activity, the group enjoyed a bus tour of tourist attractions of the area.

In 2010 and in recognition of their 50th reunion, classmates established the Class of 1960 fund. Class members have contributed generously to this fund, with the intention of supporting a Faculty of Agriculture student. Sadly, the Class of 1960 have lost many of their members over the years. Upon reaching their goal in 2015, the Class established the Class of 1960 Memorial Bursary to honour the memory of their deceased classmates who contributed to this fund and who valued the experience and education they received at Nova Scotia Agricultural College. The AC is honoured to have a scholarship recognizing the contributions of the Class of 1960.
