Student Support Workshop Series

Posted by stephanie rogers on October 16, 2015 in News

Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Agriculture Student Services has introduced the Student Support Workshop Series to assist in increasing awareness and skills to effectively support students in a wide variety of situations. To receive the Recognition of Completion, participants will attend four core series workshops and three additional workshops throughout the academic year. Most workshops are 60 minutes in length and will be facilitated by Dalhousie faculty and staff.  Sessions will be held primarily during the day.

Our next session is  “Academic Integrity” on October 20, 2015 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm, in Haley Room 254. In this session, participants will be provided an overview of the academic integrity process with guidance on how to support students navigating through the process.

Our third session is “Appreciative Education” on October 30, 12-1:00 pm, in Haley Room 254. Based on the organizational development theory of Appreciative Inquiry and the positive psychology literature, appreciative education is a framework for increasing student success. It is the intentional, collaborative practice of asking positive, open-ended questions that help students optimize their educational experiences and achieve their dreams, goals and potentials. This session will discuss the phases of appreciative education, and how they can be applied to a wide variety of settings within higher education.

To pre-register for either session as part of the Workshop Series or as a single session, please rsvp to christa.totten@dal.ca.  If you are interested in these sessions but are unable attend, please email christa.totten@dal.ca for future dates.  Feel free to bring your lunch as this is a lunch and learn opportunity.
