Youth Engage Truro

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on February 5, 2015 in News

Colchester/Truro youth are stepping forward to lead a gathering of their peers in our community to discuss issues important to their future prosperity! All youth living or studying, in our region, between the ages of 18 and 29, are invited to join in the engagement of what is hoped will be the first of many opportunities to have meaningful conversations about how to make our area an exciting, vibrant and cool place for young people to live.

Youth leaders from Dalhousie, Faculty of Agriculture and NSCC, Truro Campus have collaborated to plan and facilitate, what is expected to be, a fun, interesting and valuable evening for all involved. The event is free and there will be food, thank you gifts for all, door prizes and a prize draw for $200 Boss speakers.

The evening will start with an engaging discussion of the good things about our area and the priorities for change that youth see as important. There will be an opportunity to link ideas and issues to the wider issues discussed in the One NS (Ivany) report. Sarah Hingley a 4th year student – who is from Truro –  will moderate this part of the evening, encouraging youth to be creative and free in imagining how this region can be the best in the Province for youth. The session will conclude with an opportunity to practice entrepreneurial and networking skills and give you the chance to meet new people in our area that may become lifelong friends and/or business partners!

The event is Monday, Feb 9, 6:30-9:30 pm at MacRae Library at the AC campus, off College Road. Remember, the event is free, and there will be food, gifts and prizes sponsored by the NSCC Y.E.S. and Dalhousie Culitiv8 initiatives. All Colchester/Truro youth aged 18-29 are encouraged to come out and share ideas.  Please contact Sarah at sarah-hingley@Dal.Ca  or Dr. Kathleen Kevany at kkevany@dal.ca or 902.893.6725.
