National Kale Day

Posted by stephanie rogers on September 16, 2013 in News

Did you know that kale is not only packed with vitamins and minerals that can help improve heart health, balance blood sugar and even battle cancer; it is also economical and easy to grow locally! Add all that together and kale is a definite power plant!

That is why Dalhousie Faculty of Agriculture is supporting National Kale Day Canada (NKDC),October 2, 2013 -  a fun day of action celebrating kale’s health benefits and culinary versatility, applauding local kale producers and promoting the eating, growing and sharing of kale.

NKDC is a part of a larger movement that is bringing together farmers, healthcare professionals, educators, chefs and others to officially declare October 2 National Kale Day.

The NKDC team at Dalhousie invites you to join in the celebrations and attend a National Kale Day event or to encourage you to host your own kale party (kaleigh) or potluck on October 2! Students, faculty and community members at the Agricultural Campus are invited to Kaleighs at the Truro Farmers’ Market and the Dal AC Barn on the evening of October 2.

For details contact Meggie MacMichael or Dr. Kathleen Kevany at Canada@nationalkaleday.org or @KaleDayCanada. You can also visit the official NKD website at nationalkaleday.org.
