Afternoon with Janet Maybee at the Elizabeth Bishop House

Posted by Stephanie Rogers on April 10, 2013 in Events

“Afternoons with…” at the Elizabeth Bishop House are beginning for 2013. We have several wonderful writers and artists lined up and are beginning with a cracker jack event.

“Afternoon with…” at the Elizabeth Bishop House, with retired teacher and independent scholar Janet Maybee, about a truly fascinating story connected to the Halifax Explosion (1917).  She has uncovered truly fascinating information and has exposed a wrong which has long been taken to be fact. The story of how Janet got involved in this subject is as riveting as the subject itself.

This afternoon will be a lively conversation about Mackey’s story and about Janet’s journey to this subject. She will not be giving her presentation per se, which is multi-media and involves an actor reading Mackey’s letters. But, rather, she will give the background to her intriguing discoveries.

With the centenary of the Halifax Explosion approaching, Janet’s work is important for many reasons. Besides being a thorough scholar, Janet is a lively raconteur – you will be entertained and enlightened.
