Research

My research interests center around better understanding the intersection between the food system and individuals’ food choices. To do so, I utilize surveys as well as a variety of qualitative methods to determine how people perceive the food system and the cognitive processes that underlie their food choices. Most recently, I have developed an interest in media analysis as a tool to understand how agriculture and the food system are framed. Media both influences and is influenced by the public, thereby, making media analysis a potentially rich source of information for detecting and understanding the key frames that shape our thinking. Currently, I am working on research examining how local food, fair trade, aquaculture, and marine animals are framed by the news media.
