Harry Waugh

Although Mr. Harry I. Waugh lived his whole life on the home farm at Douglas, near Fredericton, New Brunswick, such was his influence that he left a lasting impression as a citizen and agriculturist amongst a wide circle of friends throughout Canada whose good fortunes it was to have known him.

His ‘Douglas Holsteins’ were well known in the showring and, although he will be remembered for the many creditable production records which were made by this herd, it is through his support and leadership in agricultural organizations that Mr. Waugh contributed most to his chosen profession of agriculture, which he regarded so highly and which he served so well.

Mr. Waugh was active in local and provincial organizations of his favourite breed, being a Past-President of the New Brunswick Branch of the Holstein-Friesian Association of Canada. He held office in the New Brunswick Artificial Breeders Co-operative, the New Brunswick Federation of Agriculture, the New Brunswick Milk Producers Association and the Dairy Farmers of Canada, and in the councils of these organizations, his wise counsel and advice were valued and respected.

A quiet, soft-spoken man, whose congenial smile was his trademark, Mr. Waugh was a citizen who contributed unstintingly of his time, his ability and his substance in community projects. He was a leader in local church, school and community organizations. His honesty and fair dealings were recognized in every organization with which he was associated, and by every individual with whom he came in contact.
