Eric P. Williams
Born in 1938 Eric P. Williams started farming in 1959 with nine cows and twenty cleared acres. Today the Williams' family own and operate a two hundred head Holstein dairy farm in the Goulds and employ a nephew and one other worker.
Eric worked hard to introduce supply management for milk producers in Newfoundland. In 1983 he was appointed the first chair of the Newfoundland Milk Marketing Board now known as the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador. During his lifetime he fought to improve the cost of production formula for milk producers in the province. He also served as Director of Dairy Farmers of Canada for a number of years.
In 1993 Eric made his first visit to the former Soviet Union for consultation on Dairy farming. In all he visited Russia and the Ukraine three time in a consulting role.
Eric formed and served as President of the Goulds Agricultural Society since its inception. He was a recipient of the Governor General of Canada Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.
Eric and his wife Rosemary raised seven children on their farm in Goulds. He was also a long standing member for the St. John's Choir and the St. Kevin's Parish Choir.
Nominated by the Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador in recognition of his tremendous contributions to agriculture, it is fitting that the late Eric P. Williams become an Inductee into the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame.
