Medical Surveillance
Dalhousie University, in partnership with the IWK Health Centre, provides a medical surveillance program to help prevent illness in research personnel who work in laboratories where infectious material or toxins are handled, and who are therefore at risk of exposure to these materials.
The medical surveillance program is an important part of the University's biosafety program, and is a requirement of the Public Health Agency of Canada's Canadian Biosafety Standard (CBS). More information on Medical Surveillance programs can be found in the Canadian Biosafety Handbook (CBH).
All University laboratory personnel who work under a Containment Level 2 Biosafety Permit are required to participate in the medical surveillance program.
