Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research

Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on March 11, 2024 in Research Funding

Three new opportunities are available through the Joint Federal Research Funding Program for Military Personnel and Veterans.

This research funding program aims to enhance the well-being of Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families by supporting Canadian research focused on supporting these populations. This joint initiative is the result of a partnership between Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), the Canadian Forces Health Services (CFHS) and the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research (CIMVHR).

1. Canadian Armed Forces Health Survey (CAFHS 2019) data analysis to examine health trends and factors affecting CAF women and gender-diverse members

Researchers are invited to apply for a new grant funding opportunity sponsored by Canadian Forces Health Services Director of Women and Diversity Health (D WDH) to conduct a focused, comprehensive and/or multivariable analysis using the Canadian Armed Forces Health Survey (CAFHS 2019) data to examine health trends and factors affecting CAF women and gender-diverse members. There is potential for up to three research proposals to be funded.

The due date for applications is 15 April 2024 at 11:59 PM (PST).

2. Exploring the experiences and impacts of interpersonal violence affecting Veterans and their families

Veterans Affairs Canada is seeking proposals for research focused on the experiences and impacts of interpersonal violence affecting Veterans and their families. The proposed research should consider the unique experiences of military members, Veterans and their families as well as how mental health-related factors may intersect with these experiences.

The due date for applications is 18 March 2024 at 11:59 PM (PST).

3. Development of new approaches to improve the supply of universal “O-type” red blood cells

Researchers are invited to apply for a new grant funding opportunity sponsored by Canadian Forces Health Services. This opportunity is aimed at improving supply of “universal” O type red blood cells for use in transfusion, especially in cases where the blood type of the recipient cannot be identified rapidly. The intent is to provide a method in which A or B type blood can be converted to O type blood. Any methodology developed for this purpose should be usable on the battlefield in “far forward” austere situations where advanced medical technologies or laboratory procedures may not be present.

The due date for applications is 15 April 2024 at 11:59 PM (PST).
