The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) plays an important role in Canada’s National Quantum Strategy (NQS) by supporting the advancement of research, innovation and talent development in quantum science and technology through various funding opportunities.
NSERC is now accepting applications for the Alliance International Catalyst Quantum grants and the Alliance International Collaboration Quantum grants. These grants will provide support for university researchers in Canada to establish and grow international research collaborations with researchers in the academic sector that will strengthen research excellence in Canada and abroad, and further develop Canadian research strengths and leadership in quantum science and technology.
Proposals for both funding opportunities may address any challenges in quantum science, but their thrust must be to advance one or more of the NQS missions through research in any of the following areas of quantum technologies, or a combination thereof:
- quantum algorithms/encryption, including post-quantum cryptography
- quantum communications
- quantum computing
- quantum materials
- quantum sensing
Alliance International Catalyst Quantum grants
This funding opportunity offers grants of up to $25,000 for one year to Canadian academic researchers to initiate and develop research collaborations with international researchers from the academic sector. Applicants may apply any time until March 31, 2024 at 9pm AST
Alliance International Collaboration Quantum grants
This new funding opportunity offers grants that can range from $30,000 to $300,000 per year for up to three years to support Canadian academic researchers collaborating on research projects with international researchers from the academic sector. Applicants may apply any time until January 31, 2024 at 9pm AST
