Genome Canada: Genomic Monitoring of Pathogens in Water

Posted by Jaq-Lin Larder on May 1, 2023 in Research Funding

Genome Canada has announced the launch of the new Genomic Monitoring of Pathogens in Water (GeMPaW) strategic initiative.  This $10 million investment will help Canada defend its population, wildlife and environment from major threats posed by emerging pathogens and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), including antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes.

The first opportunity through this initiative is through the Community Coordination and Collaboration Hub (C3 Hub) (~$3M).  The C3 Hub will act broadly as a connector, ensuring that water-based pathogen and AMR genomic monitoring data are used to inform public policy decisions.  1:1 co-funding will be required. See the website for further details and to register for both the opportunity and an information session to be live-streamed on June 1.

Following the information session, prospective C3 Hub leaders must indicate (through the corresponding Genome Centres) their intent to apply as a team by August 2023. Please contact Genome Atlantic (info@genomeatlantic.ca) for the exact deadline date.
