The Northern Contaminants Program (NCP) is now accepting funding proposals. The NCP Call for Proposals 2023-2024 will be posted on the NCP website in the coming days, and is also available here [PDF 1.6 MB].
The current focus of the NCP is on the high priority issues in communities where people are exposed to contaminants at levels of concern to health authorities, and on better understanding the issue of plastic pollution in the North and Arctic. A total of $2,665,000 is available in 2023-2024 (and $3,000,000 available in each of the subsequent two years) for projects across four NCP Subprograms (Human Health; Environmental Monitoring and Research; Community-Based Monitoring and Research; and Communications, Capacity, and Outreach). This amount includes approximately $875,000 annually to support the coordinated generation, collection and management of scientific and environmental data and Indigenous knowledge pertaining to plastic and microplastic pollution in the environment and wildlife.
