1. Data Management Plans
Jeremy Geelen Senior Advisor (Open Science), KM Stratetgies Team, Science Policy Branch presented an update on the Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy and Implementation Plan.
This policy work was started in 2013 leading to the Tri-Agency Statement of Principles on Digital Data Management in 2016. Between 2017-2019, there was consulation on the Draft Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy. The Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy was launched in 2021.
Tri-agency RDM Policy - Requirements
Institutional Strategies: Each post-secondary institution and research hospital eligible to administer CIHR, NSERC or SSHRC funds is required to create an institutional RDM strategy and notify the agencies when it has been completed.
Data Management Plans: For certain funding opportunities, the agencies will require DMPs to be submitted to the appropriate agency at time of application, as outlined in the call for proposals; in these cases, the DMPs will be considered in the adjudication process.
Data Deposit: Grant recipients are required to deposit into a digital repository all digital research data, metadata and code that directly support the research conclusions in journal publications and pre-prints that arise from agency-supported research.
The policy also considers Data Management Plans for Indigenous Research.
By March 1, 2023, each postsecondary institution and research hospital must post their Research Data Management Strategies. Click here to see Dalhousie’s Research Data Management Strategy and DMP Assistant.
